Frequently Asked Questions

If you do not find the answer to your questions below please feel free to give us a call at (239)598-1003

How often does my biomedical waste need to be picked up?

Your biomedical waste that is placed in the red bag needs to be picked up within 30 days.  If you are using sharps then you can continue to use the container until the material reaches the designated fill line.  Then you have 30 days to dispose of the waste.

Do I need to have a permit?

Yes, you can obtain a permit application from Allsafe Medical or from the Florida Department of Health.  If you produce over 25lbs. of biomedical waste in a month you will need to obtain a Biomedical Waste Generator Permit.  If you produce less than 25lbs. of biomedical waste per month then you would need the Biomedical Waste Generator Permit/Exemption.

What types of things should be placed in the red bag?

Used, absorbent materials that are saturated with blood, blood products, body fluids or excretions or secretions contaminated with visible blood; and absorbent materials saturated with blood or blood products that have dries need to go into the red bag.  Non-absorbent, disposable devices that have been contaminated with blood, body fluids or secretions or excretions visibly contaminated with blood, but have not been treated by an approval method also need to be placed in the red bag.  A closed sharps container would also be placed in the red bag for disposal.

What types of things should go into the sharps container?

Needles, glass or hard plastic should go into sharps.  A good “rule of thumb” is if the item would rip or penetrate the red bag then place it into the sharps.

How do I know what day you will pick up?

Allsafe Medical gives you a yearly calendar with all the dates of your pick up.  This is especially important if your office will be closed for any reason.  You will know ahead of time when we pick up so you can call and reschedule your pick up before you leave so as to not go over the 30 day limit to dispose of your biomedical waste.

Can I get help with health and safety compliance?

Yes, Allsafe Medical has a health and safety compliance department.  Allsafe Medical has monthly programs for a nominal fee which will keep you in compliance with OSHA as well as the Department of Health.  We also sell services and manuals al a carte.  Our goal at Allsafe Medical is to assist you in any way possible so you will be in compliance.

Do you pick up other things besides medical waste?

Yes, all it takes is one phone call and Allsafe Medical can pick up hazardous waste, e-waste such as old computers, printers, etc. as well as fluorescent light bulbs and expired medication.
